Wisdom For Your Weekend is your weekly installment of what we’ve been reading—and watching—around the web. This week, as Chris Pappalardo is away recharging his batteries (yes, he runs on batteries), W4YW is taking a brief detour away from our usual timely articles. We raided the blog vault and bring to you the Most Popular W4YW Articles of all time, in case you missed these the first time around. Enjoy.

Reaction to the Supreme Court Decision on Same-Sex Marriage, Russell Moore. There has been (and will continue to be) a lot of commentary coming on the heels of last June’s landmark Supreme Court decision, in which the Court voted 5-4 to make same-sex marriage legal nationwide. Moore offers a helpful perspective as we enter a new chapter in America. There is cause for concern, but much more cause for hope.

10 Marks of an Immature Believer, Mike Leake. Channeling his inner Jeff Foxworthy (and summarizing Christopher Love’s Grace: The Truth, Growth, and Different Degrees), Leake gives us a, “You Might Be an Immature Believer…” top ten. Try to read this list without being defensive. And if the arrows hit home, Leake has some encouragement for you, too.
7 Things to Do After You Look at Pornography, Paul Maxwell. Most of us are aware that the act of looking at pornography is sinful. But the battle against sin continues well after the lustful looks. In fact, the immediate moments after indulging in sexual sin might be the most important of all. They can be an opportunity for the Enemy to sure up his victory, or an opportunity to let grace begin to heal you. These are 7 tangible ways to choose grace.
12 Benefits of Waking Up an Hour Earlier (on Monday–Friday), Chuck Lawless. I (Chris) get up before the sun does on most days. It’s not my favorite experience in the world, but the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, as Lawless enumerates here. Maybe you’ve tried waking up early before and needed a little more motivation. Well, here you go. Maybe you’ve never even considered it. Well, you should! (As a side note, I’m sure there’s a “12 Benefits” post out there defending going to bed an hour earlier. Extra credit on the exam for whoever finds it.)
7 Reasons Not to Play the Lottery, John Piper. I have long had misgivings about the lottery. (It was a regular part of my Pennsylvania childhood, though it’s more recent here in NC.) The main issue has always seemed, to me, that the lottery preys on those who are least able to afford it—the poor. And that’s Piper’s fifth point. But he’s got 6 other reasons that the lottery is a scourge and a shame on our country. Read up.
7 Ways to Keep Your Wife Beautiful for Life, Brad Hambrick. As a society, we place far too much emphasis on physical beauty, particularly for women. The Christian response to this shouldn’t be to pretend that beauty means nothing, but to re-capture the idea of beauty, to show the world what true attractiveness really is. Hambrick gives some very helpful tips for cultivating the kind of beauty that matters in the home.

25 Ways That Parents Aren’t Keeping Up With Technology, Abby Heugel, 22Words. Some of these are amusing in the “funny-cuz-it’s-not-you” way. Others are pretty endearing. And others hit a little too close to home with this particular technophobe. (For instance, I’ve often tagged inanimate objects as people on Facebook. That’s not normal?)
Wisdom For Your Weekend is presented to you by Chris Pappalardo, with occasional guidance from J.D. Greear. This is our attempt to reflect Proverbs 9:9: “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.”
