W4YW: Manliness at Home, “Christian” Politics, & Stupid Links

Your weekly installment of things we’ve been reading around the web.

Book Review/Video of the Week

Jesus Calling by Sarah Young, reviewed by Kathy Keller. “In the last few weeks I have walked by stacks of this book in Costco, been asked to OK it for sale on the Redeemer Book Table (no), and been told by a number of people in and around New York how much they love it. I thought it was time that I explained why I consider this book unhelpful and to be avoided.”

Articles of the Week

Why Do We Click on Stupid Links? Tony Reinke. “We click, we read, we watch, and often we feel dumber for it.” We all know the familiar tug of hyperlink curiosity, but why? And how can we resist it? He may not have had the internet to deal with, but 4th-century church father Augustine offers us the way out of these woods.

18 Things I Will Not Regret Doing With My Wife, Tim Challies. A beautiful follow-up to Challies’ earlier post, “18 Things I Will Not Regret Doing With My Kids.”

How to Be a Man at Home, Brian Howard. “Having been married for 19 years and being the father of four kids, I have learned a lot about what it means to be a man at home.  Here are five simple but effective things that I strive to live out every day.”

Should We Pull Back From Politics? Russell Moore. In short, no. But Moore portrays a balanced approach to Christian political engagement: It doesn’t start or end with politics alone. It starts and ends with the gospel and the kingdom of God. Those who oppose our convictions will hate us. Those who want to use our church voting lists as their political organizing tools won’t understand us. So be it. Kingdom first.”
