Four Warning Signs You Aren’t Listening to Your Team, Eric Geiger. Not many leaders will openly tell you that they don’t value listening to their team. But what we value in theory, we often have difficulty putting into practice. If you think you’re listening to your team, you might want to do a quick self-audit, as Geiger helpfully provides.
Political Correctness and Plain Rudeness, David Murray. Presidential candidate (sheesh) Donald Trump’s recent knuckleheaded comments (oh, there will be more) remind us that we should keep a distinction between defying political correctness and being a flat-out jerk. Or, as Murray puts it, “There’s a difference between fighting for free speech and using filthy speech. There’s a difference between telling the truth and simply insulting opponents.”
Nine Ways to Protect Your Children from Sexual Abuse, Justin Holcomb. We all wish that articles like this didn’t have to exist. But burying our heads in the sand about terrible situations isn’t going to equip us to avoid them. If you’ve got kids (or work with kids, or know kids), this is absolutely required reading. Abuse is horrific; but we can do some very simple things to prevent it.
One Year Later: What Have We Learned from Ferguson? Russell Moore. “The white Christians I know who care deeply about solving our nation’s racial injustices are those who are embedded in communities with black and Hispanic and Asian Christians. They care not just about issues but about people they love as their brothers and sisters in Christ. Where we see churches that expand beyond the sameness of ethnicity or economic status, we see people who are willing to stand up for one another in the public square, because they’ve learned to love one another at the family table.”
