I got this email today from one of our members. It is always encouraging for me to hear (specifically) how God uses my messages in the lives of our members.
Hey J.D.,
So in light of your blog last week about the kind of criticism that helps, I wanted to give you a bit of “positive specific” feedback from this weekend’s sermon.
I mentioned to you the other day that our friend Molly is seriously seeking God. My wife and I believe she is actually very near believing. She came to the Summit this weekend, and I saw her later in the day. I considered asking her about her experience at church, but hesitated for a moment because I knew my wife was already planning to ask her about her Summit visit.
But I remembered your phrase about boldness: “saying something when it would be easier to say nothing.” So I asked. It turned into a two-hour conversation between Molly, my wife, and me. Molly and my wife ended up getting together the next day, too, and talked for another 3 hours. She is so open now to the gospel, and it is evident that God is working in her. At this point, I feel that it’s not a matter of “if” but “when” she will believe.
All that to say, thanks for all you do to faithfully preach, especially for your specific words. Even simple things like that encouraging phrase (“Say something when it would be easier to say nothing”) I see God using in my life to continue sharing more boldly and more frequently.
