Sponsor a Child through Compassion Today!

Summit, this past weekend was a huge one in the life of our church—and, because of your faithfulness, it’s going to be a huge one for years to come in the lives of hundreds of kids around the world. You stepped up in a big way during our Compassion Weekend, with 1,100 families choosing to sponsor a child through Compassion International! That means that 1,100 kids who were in extreme poverty will now have their needs met, will hear the gospel, and will have their lives changed eternally.

As a church, we’ve been partnering Compassion for several years now. Compassion works on the front lines in some of the most impoverished areas of the world. They partner with local churches worldwide to sponsor impoverished children right in their own neighborhoods. It’s a model that ensures that real needs are met in healthy and sustainable ways. And, most importantly, it gives families a tangible way of getting involved in missions.

My family and I sponsor four kids through Compassion—each one corresponding in age to one of my kids. The whole process has enlarged our family’s vision of the world and made missions something more personal to all of us. Because of Compassion, “missions” isn’t an abstract idea for my kids anymore; missions has a face and a name. And through Compassion, my kids are learning to love people from other nations by becoming their friends. Last year, I had the chance to take one of my kids to visit her sponsored Compassion child in the Dominican Republic. It was an incredible experience, and one I hope to repeat with my other kids as they get older.

There are so many myths floating around churches about what missions has to look like, and one of them is that you are either on the field or you aren’t involved. But at different stages in your life, there are different ways to be involved in missions. I’m convinced that a lot of families in our church want to engage in missions, but they don’t know how. For families with young children (like mine!), Compassion is a great way to contribute and to join what God is doing worldwide.

Would you join the thousands of other families at the Summit that have already stepped out in faith? You may have missed an opportunity this weekend, but it’s not too late. God has given graciously and abundantly to us—not so that we would hoard what we have, but so that we would multiply what we have for the sake of the gospel. Let’s join together with Compassion and multiply our lives for the only Kingdom that matters.
